Managing Databases using Enterprise Manager (MOSC)

 I have been reading up on Grid managment of a site.  I currently have local database web consoles for the most important databases but I understand with Grid solution, I can add my app serves and all other databases so I can manage them from one console. 
I'm on 10.2.0.4 on linux redhat 5.  

My question is, the documentation to install seems like its more problematic to install than its worth.  There seems to be an endless amount of checks and balances that have to be complete just to get it installed yet the single instance db console works right out of the box?
