How to improve the performance of the Oracle database

 Hi All,

I am beginner of Oracle DBA activity's My Oracle 10g database size is 100GB.Daily it is growing with up to 1 GB of data. Database is installed in windows platform. Total size of disk is 500 GB. When ever I want to select set of period data from the database using the sql quires it taking more time to retrieve Can any one help me to improve the performance of my database. please list out the step's of database maintenance activity's.
