Limitations of Hierarchical Relationships

We are in the infant stages of a project to begin using Oracle AR as a replacement for a legacy system.  In our legacy system, each customer is part of a division and each division is part of a chain.  I have researched and I believe that the relationships in Oracle can certainly create this hierarchy.  What I have not found good information on are the following questions:

1.  What kind of reporting is available at each level of the hierarchy?

2.  Can cash be posted at say the chain level but applied to transactions at the store level? Or vice versa?
