Stock locator - subinventory assignments. Can they be changed?

One of our business units is undergoing a massive warehouse re-design and wants to use existing stock locators. The issue is, these stock locators are already assigned to subinventory "A" and the business unit wants them to be assigned to subinventory "B" instead.

It's not a simple matter of entering an "Inactive On" date on the current record and starting over (but using a different subinventory), as Oracle displays a message that the locator segment combination already exists. Using a different org. code is not workable.

Ideas?
