Increasing the length of the segment from 2 to 3

Hi,

We are planning to increase the length of the segment from 2 to 3 to accommodate new cost centers. Only the length of the existing segment is modified, not adding new segments. Anyone who has experienced this? What would be the effect to old transactions?

Any help is appreciated.
