I am a 'newbie' in this topic.

We plan to migrate to Oracle VM for an upgraded Apps 11i, 9i database and 10.1.2 Portal middle tier and infrastructure, all on new servers.

Point me to references, please, that will explain how to configure my servers in a VM world, yet comply with licensing.

I have a single processor license for 9i Enterpise RDBMS and single proc lic for Application Server for our custom Applications with named user licenses for 24 Financial users.  Somewhat similar for Portal: single proc Enterp Portal license and a Std lic for the 9i infrastructure RDBMS.

I am considering a dual processor with six cores each as the server to run this whole environment.  I would use the VM os to partition the RDBMS and Applic Server to 2 cores.  Like this:
