Serial Number Update

In Install Base, I can update the serial number of a Unit Configuration that exists in cMRO; however when I try to update a serial number of an eAM Asset it will error if a work order has been created for the Asset regardless of the status of the work order.  Is there any way for us to update the serial numbers of eAM assets??
