Allocations, Reservations

Hello,

have 2 questions in regards to allocations/reservations... wondering if there is something that i am missing that I could take advantage of - functionality wise.
 
scenario:
Sales order for a make item is entered (CTO), bom is created, work order created - ship date due a month out. The work order is released 5 days prior to shipment: pick release is run when order is released = allocation of push parts
 
Sales order is entered for parts, if on hand = makes reservation.. sales order is entered after the sales order for Make item.. since there was no reservation on a part that is part of a Work order, the system makes the reservation.
