T1, T2, T3: what determines on what doc type something will book?

 I understand that T1s are essentially those that involve the paycheck directly. I added a couple of new accrual DBAs to accrue some potential bonus expense, and saw that their GL effect was booked on a T1. What determines where a new DBA will book?
