Archive Log Files not being deleted

In oracle 11g Windows 2008 and 2003 we have a scenario where the archive log files are not being deleted. 

We have set the rman archivelog retention to sysdate - 1 but 4 days of files exist still on the file system.

We are using delete noprompt backup of archivelog until time = 'sysdate -1';

How do I get rid of the unwanted files.  Report obsolete returns nothing.
