Linux cluster - Single instance database - Register with VIP

 Hi, I have a two node Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 update 8 cluster with a single instance database (10.1.0.5). I've created a clustered listener via netca and can see it as VIP in crs_stat.
Can I/how do I get the database to register with the VIP address listener rather than the local host listener IP address?
Will it work when the VIP fails over or attempts to connect to the database on the wrong host?
