Cannot make changes to Asset in Prepare Mass Additions- Buttons greyed out

 I have an asset in fa_mass_additions table coming from a legacy system. I can see it in the Prepare Mass Addtions screen. But I cannot make any changes to it as all the buttons 'SPLIT, 'OPEN' are greyed out. Any suggestions please.
