Alternative solution to SLS (sub ledger security) for segregation of information

We are in the initial stages of upgrading from 11.5.10 CU2 to Release 12. Our current set up is 1 operating unit and then several departments reporting to that single OU, each of these departments is attached to a SLS (sub ledger security) to segregate requisitions and PO’s so they are not visible to other departments.

 

We are currently investigating is there any other way of achieving the same segregation between orders etc by using any other method?
