Sending assets to FA through AP, rather than through a capital project

Is there any way to create a capital project and assign certain tasks as non capitalizable that will flow to FA from AP, rather than through Projects?   We have projects with CIP (ex. software development) and FA Clearing (hardware).  We dont' want to have to build an asset for each piece of hardware, only the software, in PA.
