Looking for your recommendation: Question on Serial Number Uniqueness

  We have a business requirement to have the serial number unique across more than one inventory items. This is required only for some items; however, the most common case is to have the serial number unique at the item level. Currently, the serial number uniqueness defined in the org parameters is “Within Inventory Item. I am thinking of changing this option to “Within Inventory Model and Items” to fulfill this requirement. Actually marinating the serial number uniqueness at org level is not a feasible option in our case because in most cases we need to use the same serials with different items; however, in only few cases the serial number should be unique across set of items,
