Drill down from GL to Payroll

I read their was is a enhancement request to be able to drill down from gl to payroll.  Currently, this is not available and according to the document, it states a report should be made to do this in Discoverer for a work around. 
Has anyone created one of these types of reports?  I am needing some direction on this if anyone is willing to share.  We are on 11.5.10.2 and database 10.2.0.4
