Is it possible to upgrade Oracle Text supported document format for Adobe PDF files?

Using: 10gR2 RAC +ASM (10.2.0.3)
I'm creating search-able text based indexes stored in BLOB columns for PDF documents.
What I have noticed is that several of the documents are not text search-able for known
text within the documents. According to Oracle Text Reference 10g Release 2 (10.2),
the Oracle Text supported document formats for PDF is supported up to version 1.5.
The documents that are not text search-able are PDF version 1.6.

Is it possible to upgrade the Oracle Text supported document formats?

Is it possible to index the PDF version 1.6 documents?

What are the options? (Other options than not using the PDF version 1.6 documents)
