Blank character in ALPH field of A/B search (P0101SL) no longer works

Question:

When searching for an address book item in P0101SL, the search doesn't appear to recognize the space character. Searching for "Oracle Corp" using "oracle*" returns results, while using "oracle corp*" does not.
This functionality works in 8.11; did this change with 9.0 or is this a bug?
