Activity Codes or WBS

Does anyone have experience that would suggest using Activity codes instead of the WBS to subdivide the work or vice versa? Has one methodology been successful more so than the other with regard to time or effectiveness in building the schedule? Any and all feedback is welcome. Would anyone say that there are easons to use Activity Codes to organize the work and different reasons to use the WBS to organize the work?
