how to have different colours of bars for activities

 How do i make sure that some activities have different colours of bars; for example, i have  20 activities and there  are not critical; by default the bars will be in green, but these activities will be done by different trades or subcontractors, so i'm trying to have 5 different colours of bars, i.e yellow, brown, orange,blue & grey a different colour for at least 4 activities.I have tried do  using filters but no success, Am  i missing something? please help
