Data Guard in Phisical Standby DataBase in differents DB Versions?

Hello!  this is the situation: I have 2 Servers: Server1 (PRIMARY) with Oracle9iR2 and Server2 (STANDBY) with Oracle11g and i want to configure a DRP(Disaster Recovery Plan) with DataGuard between them.
My question is:
Do i have to migrate Server1 to Oracle11g? this is mandatory?
