Questions About Installing Oracle VSS Writer for Use with 9i and 10g databases

I have a few questions about an Oracle White Paper entitled "Installing Oracle VSS Writer for Use with 9i and 10g databases" , [ID 580558.1].

First, I want to use it with an Oracle 10g database (Enterprise Edition) verison 10.2.0.4 in a Windows Server 2003 environment.  According to author Tim Chien, I can install "InstantClient" from the Oracle Universal Installer.  Which version of 11g InstantClient should I use?  11.0.7.0?    Also, when I install the InstantClient 11g  on a machine that is already running 10g, where do I install it exactly?  Not in the same ORACLE_HOME as the existing 10g instance.  Correct?

I just need to know more about properly installing the InstantClient without affecting the exsiting 10g.  I would like better instructions.  When the InstantClient is installed is it going to create its own folder separate from current Oracle like (c:/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1)?

Howdy, Stranger!
