best approach for database tuning.

 Hi All, Please share your experience for the situation when slowness is reported to DBA that yesterday performance was good but today onwards it is very slow.
Where we can start first look for this issue apart from AWR report because If I am a new dba for a organization and joined one weak before and I encounter with such situation.
I will appreciate if I will get the step by step approach.

OS is HP-UX Itanium
Database Version is 10.1.0.5(RAC 3 Node)
Size of Database is 5 TB.
