How to change ORACLE_HOME path without re-installing the Oracle RDBMS on UNIX?

 Hi Guys,
Does anyone have experience on changing the $ORACLE_HOME path after the RDBMS installation?

What is the proper way to do that?

RDBMS Version: 10.2.0.4.0
OS: Solaris 10

The solution of creating a soft link would not be considered.
