RHEL 5 Server Preparation for OEM 11gR1 GC Install

Clarification needed on package requirements for the Oracle Interprise Manager and Oracle Database Installs. For example, in the following document:

Oracle® Enterprise Manager
Grid Control Basic Installation Guide
11 g Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0)
Appendix B - Meeting Package and Library Requirements

I need the following package versions:

  • gcc-4.1.1
  • glibc-common-2.3.4-2.9

Before I can install OEM, I must install the Oracle Database (repository) and the WebLogic Server.  When I review the following database install document:

Oracle® Database
Installation Guide
11 g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux
Chapter 2 -Oracle Database Preinstallation Requirements

It says the following packages (or later version) must be installed:

  • gcc-4.1.2
  • glibc-common-2.5

The Oracle Database package versions are higher than the OEM packages.  I am installing the software for both products on the same server.   The OEM install documentation does not say that we can use later versions of the packages.   Any comments would be appreciated.
