Question of datafiles on QFS file systems and inode limitations

I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me?

We have our datafiles on a SUN QFS on one mounted drive. The drive was being used to explode some tar files in order to use them for import into the database. Unfortunately in QFS there is a limitation of the number of inodes available and there were so many small files in the tar files we hit these limits. As a result, the files were untarred into another directory and links were created. However, while trying to increase a datafile size, I ran into the following error:

ORA-01237: Cannot extend datafile xx
