General Ledger Flexfield Sequence

I am working on a R12 general ledger implementation. The current GL COA Flexfield has 4 segments with the sequence numbers set at 10, 20, 30, 40. The domain has account combinations defined but there are no open periods or transactions. We have realized the sequence should be 1,2,3,4. So, is it possible and recommended to change the sequence numbers since there has not been any transactions? The sequence is not locked and is possible to modify but I am not sure what the consequences will be. The only other option appears to be creating a new COA and a
