Report Manager Expansion Values for Standard reports

Hi

In Reports Manager has anybody applied User to Value security to standard reports that contain an Expansion Value. I have read the Report Manager user guide and attempted to test it but not working as I expected. This may be down to my misunderstanding as the user guide is not detailed on this topic. If anybody has used this functon I would apreciate an example of how to use it.
