Redo log - which member of group is archived?

Hi, When using multiplexed redo logs how does Oracle determine which member of a group it is going to archive? Obviously the end result is the same but the performance wont necessarily be. I am considering an architecture where each group has 2 members and one member of each group will be on a slower device.
