Mass Retirements Screen in Oralce Assets

We have an issue with Oracle Assets Mass Retirements screen. We create our assets numerically eg. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6... and when we want to retire a range of assets we use the Mass Retirement screen.

So if we want to retire assets 1 through to 60 then we'd put 1 in the "from" field and then 60 in the "to" field. However we have been told that Oracle doesn't sort asset numbers numerically it does then alphabetically therefore it thinks that 100 comes before 11.

This all results in the wrong range of assets being retired in the Mass Retirement screen.

How would we be able to retire assets 1 through to 60 without retiring assets outside that range?
