Parallel Instance Groups - Best Practices

Does anyone have recommendations for setting and using parallel instance groups on Exadata V1 or V2? From what I'm seeing the the PQ coordinator responds fairly well to sensing load, but not to the resulting interconnect traffic that can result from sending slaves to other nodes for a large result set.
