How to "list backup of database" with RMAN Catalog, without connecting to target DB?

Up 11G R2 it's possible to duplicate a Database while the soruce DB is down. Before I execute the duplicate Statement I'd like to do a list backup of database but RMAN wants that I connect to the target to do it. Why? Does somebody know, who to get a List of Backups from RMAN Catalog without connecting to the Target Database? Thanks.
