Loss of Functionality in ASL going from R11 to R12 ?

It looks like we are facing a significant loss of functionality as we upgrade from R11.5.9 to R12...
 
In 11i, we assign an ASL (Approved Supplier List) for each of our vendors. A requisition preparer begins by going into advanced search, selecting a vendor, and then selecting from the catalog items assigned to the vendor.
 
In 12, (as per Note 790678.1, BUG 8337724), this is no longer possible, because,
 
"As part of unified catalog model in Release 12, ASL is not considered as source of extraction as it does not contain any price information. Hence ASL information will not be shown in the item search. This is the intended functionality."
