Question on installing Oracle grid control

Hi:
I'm studying the installation of Oracle Grid control to manage target databases and application servers.  Being that Grid control is middle ware (weblogic server) with its own database, is it advisable to install the middleware component on an application server and then setup the management repository on a database server?  The more I'm reading into the install, it seems that the middle ware component (weblogic server) and the database component (repository) have to be installed on the same server.  Can someone please confirm if this is correct?
