Business Number Generator Configuration

Is it possible to assign different Shipment XID's based on transport mode via the business number generator?

Say I have type LTL versus type TL and I want LTL to start with LTL001-01 and TL to start with TL TL001-01, etc.

I have read the business number rule definitions part of help but I was not sure when the Shipment XID gets assigned, if that is prior to selecting the Service Provider or after?
