Change in Encumbrance Type upgrading from R11 to R12 (Significant Loss of Functionality?)

(I'm posting this in General Ledger, I also posted this in Procurement)

We're upgrading from R11.5.9 to R12.1.2

In R11 (and since we implemented purchasing in 1994), we used two encumbrance types, REQUISITION and PURCHASE ORDER, to identify the encumbrance types when the requisition and purchase order were reserved, instead of the seeded COMMITMENT and OBLIGATION. (I could never remember the difference between COMMITMENT and OBLIGATION.)

Now, it appears as though in R12 you no longer have that choice. The General Ledger Setup --> Journals --> Encumbrance allows you to define multiple encumbrance types. The encumbrance type associated with the Requisition or Purchase Order is defined in Purchasing under Setup -> Organizations -> Purchasing Options. Release 11 has a List of Values on that form to select the encumbrance type to be reserved at Requisition or Purchase Order time, but Release 12 has a simple checkbox.

Howdy, Stranger!
