Put Project No. Segment in the General Ledger or Not? What are best practices, pros and cons?

I am sure it's been discussed here before, just not sure how to track it down. Was wondering if you can point me to any write-ups/white paper, the issue is: what are the best practices, pros & cons: whether to maintain a project no. segment or not in Oracle GL Accounting Flexfield.
