Mass Transfer of Assets - ability to include a change in Descriptive Flex Fields for Asset Category

In 11i, we currently use mass transfer of assets.  Many times the category descriptive flex fields also require a change.  Currently we do our mass transfer and then manually go into each asset to adjust the category descriptive flex fields.  Can a mass transfer be done using other means to facilitate changing the category descriptive flex fields.   Can the Oracle Assets Transfer API be used to transfer many existing assets so that the Descriptive Flex Fields for the categories are also updated with new information in the transfer?
