insert 3 times slower in Oracle 10g against 8i

Hi,
we have 2 database 10g2 (Hp ux 64bit itanium) and 8i (Hp 9000 32bit pRISC).

We have un programm that insert 100 000 lines in a table.

time to insert the lines :
5 min with 8i
15 min with 10g2

What can i do to improve the time ?

I am a beginner in Oracle database so explain a little bit plz.
