Variances in Std Costing

Hi All,
I am looking if anyone have any document regarding the variance calculation & accounting in the standard cost.
I have found one document # 371064.1 in the metalink. However I am not able to get much information from this and not sure whether it is applicable to R12 or not.
As some ff the tables given in the query are obsolete now.

I am more interested on the material variances and resource usage variances calculations and accountings.
