Journals going into Error3 Status

Recently we have had an issue with journals going into Error3 status whereby the journal appears to have posted absolutely fine but the batch has errored. Has anyone else had this issue as far we've been unable to identify the cause of this and therefore replicate it?

Also we've had an issue whereby users have attempted to post journals and they are updating the GL balance but they are showing as unposted (we will be applying a couple of recommended patches for this issue).

Anyway the main point of this discussion is that I'm looking to create a report that compares the total for transactions within GL strings with the GL Balances to identify any discrepancies. Firstly is there a standard report that will do this (I'm running 11.5.10), I couldn't find one? If not has anyone any experience of creating such a report, are there any watchouts other than the further down the GL string the check goes the longer the report will take to run?
