RMAN backups to HP D4312

Anyone out there using disk-based backup solution for rman backups in lieu of tapes? Our Sysadmin's are looking at multiple HP D4312's to take the place of tape libraries for rman backups and I'm looking for more info on the pros/cons of OST vs VTL.  Likely that backups would still run through Netbackup, I think, but not being familiar with this kind of backup to a disk system I was looking for more info on the subject.  Any good references out there?
