PAY: Closing Tax References in Payroll

Hi,

We have several payrolls for various sites in the company, each payroll has it's own tax reference. If we were to close down some of the tax references, would we need to create one payroll? What are the implications of closing the tax references?

Does anyone have any experience around this?
