Shared Services to Essbase connection over WAN

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could comment if they have any experience running Hyperion 9.3.1 Shared Services and HFM connecting to it's Essbase over a WAN connection.
As a consulting company with some experience in this, we don't recommend it.
What would be great is to find a document from Oracle not recommending it. Does anyone know where this could be found?
