How many LUNs I need for ASM install on SAN using RAID5 and external redundancy?

Hi, I am totally new to using ASM (I am trying to implement 11.2.0.2 Grid Infrastructure, standalone installation on Red Hat 5 64-bit using EMC SAN, which is using RAID5).  I have a test 100 GB database to be migrated to this environment.  My question is:  how many LUNs should I request from the Storage Admin to create ASM disk groups?  I am planning to use external redundancy, and while Oracle documentation recommends at least 4 LUNs per diskgroup, I don't quite understand why I need 4 LUNs if I am not going to mirror my files using ASM?  I was thinking that I could
