StorMan agent and /var/adm/message logging

 This is my first time trying the MOS Community program and can't find a community for Xseries servers so I hope that this community can help me or point me in the right direction.  A customer  of mine is using X4170 servers and is trying to monitor internal disk errors via messages file.  She has the following questions:

1. Does the svc:/device/ADPTstor_agent:default agent need to be running (enabled) in order for messages such as failed drive to be recorded to /var/adm/messages for our Operations Teams to act upon?

2. How do I get a disk rebuild message (Type=Progress) to log to /var/adm/messages?
