How many characters or bytes does the Description field under the Control tab allow?

 Hello -

Can someone tell me or direct me in the right direction,  where I can find out how many characters the Description field will allow? 

Use PJ Services Coordinator - Self Service responsibility to navigate to Search Project > Enter a Project > Click the Go button > Click the Control tab > Select any item in the Create field > Click the Go button to see the Description field.

I've tried to populate the Description field with text and then use word count however, the field appears to be unlimited. I have also searched the Documentation Library.

I would like to have an exact number.
