Basic question about BOM

Hi All,

Here is the situation.

A company XYZ has a requirement that very frequently they will need to ship order with the order consisting of lines (one cd, one hardware security token, one user manual) and all the above items are in inventory, shippable,onhand available.

Now let us say we can create a BOM abc because we can just use that BOM on the sales order line instead of picking each of these 3 items. So for this we create a BOM with all the above 3 items. Please note all 3 are tangible items in inventory and the onhand exists. If we create a BOM, do we need do a onhand on that BOM specifically and if so what is the meaning of that. The 3 items in BOM are 3 independent items i.e they are not assembled together to make the top item
