How to use SLA for adding new segment to SL.

We have four segments in COA in Primary Ledger (PL) .

Segment for  Projects is not included. 

Now We want to implement Projects/grants module.  It is upgradation from 11i to r12.    We cannot add project segment in PL as it will become a whole new implementation and not a mere upgradatiion.

So, we want to add a projects segment in Secondary Ledger (SL) , by using SLA functionality.   Is it a right way to have project segment in SL and not in PL.  Can we implement in GL (for Secondary ledger) using SLA functionality?

 

Give me your valuable suggestion.
