Depreciation method change

We need to change our depreciation methods from Declining Balance to Straight line starting 1-Jan-2011. i tried doing it in the test and the system goes back from the DPS and recalculates the accumulated depreciation. We DO NOT want this and want the system just start calculating on the new method from Jan-11 and not recalculate from begining. Is there a way to restrict it??
